PAVEMENT ALPHABET

Project

Create an alphabet by working on a single letter for every day of the xmas holidays. Experiment with different formats and media.

Outcome:

During my one month stay in Malta, I started spotting letterforms naturally occuring in pavement cracks. After continuously stumbling accross different letters I challenged myself to find an entire alphabet.

My search led me to explore all areas of the island. Each individual letter was photographed in a different place. Locations ranged from botanical gardens, cemeteries and coastal promenades to rocky beaches, rural paths, and tiny side streets. I was able to find most of the alphabet, however I am still in search of the letters G and S.

To further extend the project, I individually traced each photographed letter to create a separate alphabet of the actual cracks.
