BigUp.Ai

Women are four times more likely to shrink their successes and use language that undermines their value and skills. So for International Women’s Day 2020 AnalogFolk decided to change the narrative and launch a beta version of BigUp.Ai – a tool designed to encourage women to use impactful language when promoting themselves.

BigUp is a proactive agency initiative designed to create positive social change and is not for profit. Version 2.0 is now live.

How does it work?

BigUp.Ai uses Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing to turn passive/softening language into impactful statements to help people self-promote with confidence.

  1. You are prompted to enter or select a word that best describes a strength about yourself, for example ‘organised’.

  2. The word ‘organised’ is then Bigged Up by our algorithm which generates an impactful phrase using the word – which can be copied to clipboard for later use (e.g. CVs, bio, or in the real world).

  3. The same word can be Bigged Up again, shared or a new word can be entered to restart the loop.

Each time a new word is entered into the tool, the algorithm is trained to become better at creating phrases. The more BigUp.Ai is used, the more it can learn, improve and help people thrive!

 
 
 
 

Could it be done?

This was such an awesome idea – it had to be done! As the project was an out-of-hours initiative, a small team of us powered through some late nights (after work) and a weekend (or two) to launch the tool in time for International Women’s Day.

We had big ideas for the art direction and bold typography of various sizes animating in, but we needed to be realistic about what could be achieved in the time we had. Keeping the UI punchy and minimal for the beta launch meant the devs could focus on the build and we could re-skin/amend in version 2.0. The priority was the tech side of things and getting that to work – otherwise there would be no tool.

In roughly a week we managed to film a promo video, put together social assets, wireframe the journey, design, build and test a working prototype.

 
 
 
 

We had 10k+ impressions within the 24hrs of going live and went on to win ourselves a D&AD Future Impact Pencil Award for 2020
